Santiago de Cuba celebrates 490 year anniversary
The city of Santiago de Cuba, the capital of the eastern province of the same name, has become a special attraction for tourism this year, when it will celebrate its 490th anniversary.

A busy program of activities will be implemented in the city from March to October, the traditional low tourist season in the Caribbean Island, since Santiago de Cuba will celebrate the 490th anniversary of its foundation in July.

In addition, major events and meetings that will benefit the city's hotel and recreational infrastructure will take place during the said period.

The calendar includes the Caribbean Festival, the Week of Culture, the trade and business fair Expocaribe'2005 and the much-expected Carnival.

The city will also host the Meeting of Mayors from Santiago de Cuba's Twin Cities and the conference on Caribbean Cultural Identity and Journalism.

In order to meet the growing demand for accommodation and services, the staff at hotels, restaurants, cafeterias and clubs are putting the finishing touches on their facilities to provide excellent services to visitors.
